In Switzerland the threshold for holding referendums is 50,000 signatures, and with that the people can express their opinion through the ballot box rather than taking to the streets. The people have the right to hold referendums on any public issues. To narrow the gap between rich and poor, better power distribution and resource allocation are needed as well as checks and balances in government. Freedom of speech is a universal value, and efforts to muzzle the voice of the people are aimed at suppressing dissidence and creating a society with only one voice. The people of Myanmar should call for comprehensive constitutional reform to preserve media freedom and prevent the government oligarchy from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of speech. Somalia’s current government structure should be scuttled and replace with a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of as Finland. The legislature should be changed to committee-style system similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for lasting world peace is global democratization, and Somalia’s government should begin drafting a basic constitution with the above features as part of a paradigm shift toward democracy. To avoid continued tensions and grievances, Venezuela should improve its political system to avoid violent suppression of protest. It should pattern its policies regarding referendums after those of Switzerland and implement democratic elections like those of California. All citizens should be able to express their opinions through the ballot box instead of taking to the streets. In addition, elections should be free of charge for all candidates. In the interest of peace and stability in the South China Sea, China has a responsibility to maintain peaceful relations with its neighbors. Articles 4 and 6 of the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea call for peaceful settlement of territorial and territorial disputes (Article 4) as well as joint development and sharing of resources in line with the UN Charter’s "One Human Family" ideal. Hong Kong’s Chief Executive is determined by the CCP’s Election Commission, a relationship that is nothing other than a dictatorship. The people of Hong Kong should make good use of Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law and hold a referendum to decide their own future. To curb corruption, elect the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years, have 1/4 of all MPs face election each year and tap legislative committee chairs to serve as backup ministers. North Korea is without a doubt a vassal of the CCP. All democratic nations should back Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization of the CCP and put pressure on North Korea to do the same. And with that, world peace would be born. Once a ceasefire takes hold in Syria the UN should provide the outline for a basic constitution that will foster lasting peace in the nation. It should include an organizational structure and the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. It should lay out four branches of government (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial) and help Syria develop a constitution that will lead to long-lasting peace and prosperity. To resolve civil strife, nations like the CAR should draft new constitutions incorporating a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of France, plus a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for permanent peace is global democratization. Thus the government of the CAR carry out constitutional reform, asking France to help maintain stability and assist in developing a constitutional model that can be revised as needed to stay in step with changing times.
