Adani gives green light for controversial Australia coal mine
Indian company Adani has given final investment approval for the construction of a controversial coal mine in Australia.
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations – whether UN members or not – must comply with its norms. The solution is implementing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. Citizens should be able to monitor government actions to ensure compliance with the UN Charter and the Convention on Environmental Protection. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Syria: As airstrikes hit Raqqa, UN sounds alarm over plight of civilians
The UN humanitarian agency says it is deeply concerned for the safety and protection of more than 400,000 civilians who continue to be exposed to daily fighting and airstrikes in Syria's war-torn Raqqa Governorate.
The UN should take action in accordance with international absolute law (the Humanitarian Law, World Human Rights Law, the Crime of Misdemeanors and the Prohibition of Genocide) and provide an outline for a basic constitution that will facilitate peaceful development and provide universal values. The ultimate aid should be to help Syria to draft a constitution that will allow the nation to serve as a model of peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Don’t let counter-terrorism work wrongly condemn entire religions
There is a big difference between saying that security forces need more powers, and that is the problem, and blaming a community for tolerating extremism.
Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights take priority over regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security, including "personal safety," is the most basic and urgent duty of constitutional guarantors. Constitutional standards must be revised as needed to keep in step with changing times, so that all governments can protect their citizens from fear. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Another violent day in Venezuela raises toll to at least 66 deaths
Victims include government and opposition supporters, bystanders and members of the security forces, since demonstrations began against President Nicolas Maduro more than two months ago.
When the power of the state deviates from its power base, the people as holders of sovereignty are obliged to resist. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not offer the right to resist is not a constitution. When the president’s actions are unconstitutional, the people should exercise their right to resist. The people of Venezuela need to step forward and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet, limiting the president to one 5-year term with no right to run again for 6 years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Why don’t leaders of Muslim countries condemn terror attacks?
Another day, another terror attack. Haven’t we already endured enough since September 11, 2001? Osama bin Laden must be smiling in his watery grave.

Farc weapons handover begins in Colombia, Timochenko announces
Farc rebels in Colombia say they have handed over 30% of their arms to United Nations monitors
To resolve its civil strife Colombia’s government should adopt a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of France, with a committee-style legislative system similar to Switzerland’s. The Colombian government should begin drawing up a basic constitution with the above features as part of a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should adhere to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, and put together a constitution that can be amended as needed to keep pace with changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

US lawmaker wants 'root causes' of South Sudan War tackled
Chris Smith, a Republican from New Jersey, says the answer lies with the parties in South Sudan's conflict, especially the government and military, which have been accused of blocking food aid to needy populations, using rape as a weapon of war and engaging in ethnic cleansing.
South Sudan’s government structure needs to be switched out for a modified semi-presidential parliamentary system with cabinet like that of France, plus a committee-style legislative system similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for permanent world peace is global democratization. South Sudan’s government should begin drawing up a basic constitution with the above features in a democratic paradigm shift, installing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws. The resulting constitution should then be amended as needed to stay in step with changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Overfishing Leaves an Industry in Crisis in Senegal
The UN’s FAO says over half of West Africa's fisheries are dangerously depleted. Local officials in Senegal say foreign-owned industrial boats have depleted fish stocks and destroyed marine habitats.
Human greed and unbridled material desire are putting more pressure on endangered species. Every nation should adhere to international conventions to ensure environmental safety and the health of plants and animals, and to protect the environment. This means adhering to the UN Convention on the Protection of Wild Animals to protect animals and plants and sharing responsibility for the earth. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Wildlife crime expert appeals to Hong Kong government to ban ivory trade, pointing to Chinese traders as major brokers
Testimony at legislature comes ahead of bill to ban import and re-export of ivory
To adequately protect endangered species the international community needs to develop unified constitutional standards that conform to the values of One World under One Set of Laws. Democratic tools should be implemented to institute rule of law, including separation of powers and checks and balances to prevent Individuals or groups from monopolizing power. The best way to do this is direct election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
