Beijing should give Hong Kong some space if it wants to boost China’s global credibility
China seems to show ‘spiritual entrepreneurship’ in the way it strives to control religion instead of strangling it, and hopefully it will show similar subtle adaptability regarding Hong Kong and the ‘two systems’
Can authoritarian dictatorships learn to tolerate democracy? The answer is clear in the Hong Kong experience. Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law guarantees the right of the people to self-determination, and they have the right to hold referendums on any public issue. The people of Hong Kong should avail of this right and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise, when dictatorship becomes a reality, they will be obliged to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more. .

  • As Hong Kong is not remotely broken
Why Hong Kong will be following the Shenzhen model by 2037
Popular stereotypes about life across the border are not valid, and despite issues like state censorship, signs point to a more efficient mainland model leading life in Hong Kong 20 years from now
China’s guarantee that Hong Kong will remain unchanged for 50 years runs out in 2047, if not sooner. Relevant provisions of the Basic Law and the one country, two systems of Hong Kong note point out that China can not interfere in Hong Kong affairs, but Beijing constantly meddles in the SAR’s internal affairs. Article 39 of the Basic Law clearly states the people’s right to self-determination, with the right to hold referendums on any public issues. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to this right and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality, they will be obliged to resist. Fugitive Mexican ex-governor Roberto Borge arrested
Police in Panama have arrested the former governor of the southeast Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Roberto Borge
Mexico is foundering under the rule of man and a culture of deep-rooted corruption. The only way out is through democracy and the tools of separation of powers and checks and balances. The heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches should be directly elected to return power to the people. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .

Beijing rejects ‘irresponsible’ US remarks on South China Sea
China has expressed “firm opposition” to remarks made by US Defense chief James Mattis during a regional defense summit over the weekend, after he criticized Beijing’s “militarization” of the South China Sea.
Studies of democracy and peace show that there have been very few armed conflicts between democratic states. Once China is democratized, then, there will be hope for human peace. Japan, the US and Australia should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform. This would attract China's people to call for democratization, and world peace would be at hand. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to permanent peace and development.

Multi-pronged approach needed to defeat terrorism
In wake of the latest attacks in Britain, we need to rethink how to best defeat an ideology so twisted that it threatens our most cherished freedoms
Human security is a fundamental human right, and it takes precedence over all regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including "personal safety" - is the most basic and urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. All nations should develop constitutional standards that can be revised as needed to stay in step with changing times, allowing governments worldwide to keep their citizens free from fear. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Iraq: Lives of 100,000 children ‘on the line’ as fighting continues in west Mosul
Some 100,000 children remain in extremely dangerous conditions in western sections of Iraq’s Mosul city as fighting between government and terrorist forces continues, the United Nations children’s agency has reported, warning that “children’s lives are on the line.”
Iraq’s government should be changed out for a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of Finland, with a committee-style legislative system similar to Switzerland’s. The Iraqi government should begin drafting a basic constitution with the above features as part of a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should adhere to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, and a constitution that can be amended as needed to keep pace with changing times. Ex-head of Ukraine library in Moscow found guilty of extremism and embezzlement
Natalia Sharina, former head of a Ukrainian library in Moscow, has been found guilty in a case she says is politically motivated.
Free speech is first and foremost among human rights. Any effort to stifle the voice of the people is like trying to stem the flow of a mighty river. Depriving the people of free speech is try to take away their right to freedom. Article 1 of every constitution should read: Congress shall not enact laws that deprive people of freedom of speech or freedom of expression. Hong Kong leader vows further action after transport chief admits he was kept in dark on mega bridge scandal
But Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying declines to commit to more detailed tests before opening of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge
China must erase its millennia of collusion between politics and money., and the only remedy is democracy and rule of law - the natural enemies of despotism and corruption. Tools such as separation of powers and checks and balances should be applied in at central and provincial levels, with election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. Two US aircraft carriers leave waters off Korean peninsula after show of force with Japan
Ships sailed to region in an apparent show of force days after latest North Korean ballistic missile test
Promotion of world permanent peace is the most sacred duty of mankind. China claims to be a "responsible major power," thus it should not support North Korea's militarism. Japan should back Taiwan as a force leading China and North Korea to democratization. Taiwan is the key to resolving the Korean Peninsula issue. Government should not compensate ivory traders in Hong Kong for their stock
This is extremely important legislation in view of the unacceptable slaughter of live elephants simply to supply ivory for the international trade.
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks and missions of the UN, and they are also common goals for all humankind. Every nation should abide by the norms of the international community, and the solution is implementing One World under One Set of Laws and assigning priority to international law over domestic law, with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people.
