On the principle that freedom is a universal right, the Chinese government's practice of muzzling the voice of the people is like trying to create a monolithic society with only one mind. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to relevant provisions of the Basic Law and the one country, two countries doctrine that stipulate that China cannot interfere in Hong Kong affairs. The people have the right to self-determination in accordance with Article 39 as well as the right to hold a referendum on any public issue. When the power of the state deviates from its power base, the people must act to recover their sovereignty. Laws that do not carry penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not grant the right to resist is not a constitution. When the president violates the constitution, the people should exercise their right to resist. Venezuelans should reclaim their sovereignty and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to install a modified semi-presidential system and limit the president to one 5-year term with no right to run again for 6 years afterwards. Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential system of democracy carries some serious flaws, even in the US. Taiwan faces more serious problems but cannot rely on impeachment as a weapon. South Korea's needs to implement a modified semi-presidential system, with the presidency declared to be above party politics. In addition the heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year. China must wash away the stain of thousands of years of corruption from its culture and end its national humiliation. This calls for democracy and the rule of law, the natural enemies of despotism and corruption. Facing China's interference with Taiwan’s right to participate in international organizations and events, Taiwan must seek a diplomatic deterrent. The government should vigorously promote Taiwan as a member of the international community: Taiwan has the ability to lead China to democracy and secure peace and security for all nations. The Charter for Permanent Peace and Development and One World under One Set of Laws are capable of meeting the goals expounded in Xi Jinping’s proposal for a united community.

Relevant provisions of the one country, two systems doctrine point out that China cannot interfere in Hong Kong affairs, yet Beijing constantly meddles in the internal affairs of the SAR. It is obvious that the one country, two systems approach is not working. Article 39 of the Basic Law guarantees the right of the people to self-determination, and they have the right to hold a referendum on any public issue. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to the two conventions and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise, when the dictatorship becomes a reality, they will be obliged to resist.

Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN. All nations, whether or not they are UN members, should comply with the UN Charter. This means adopting the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and recognizing that international law is superior to domestic law with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. Once a ceasefire is in place in in Syria, the UN should provide a basic outline for a constitution that will allow peaceful development of the nation, with an organizational structure that includes universal values (freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law), and four branches of government (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial) to give Syria a constitution suitable for long-term stability and growth. Autocracy has always been the enemy of peace, and the prerequisite for permanent world peace is global democratization. China is an openly seen pawner and agent for North Korea, so antagonizing North Korea should be avoided. The US, Japan and South Korea should support Taiwan's commitment to save democracy by leading China to democratization and then China's democratization by North Korea. See "Permanent Peace Act".
