Prosecutors arrest associate of Park's friend in corruption probe
Prosecutors have arrested a former associate of ousted President Park Geun-hye's close friend who made key testimonies in relation to an influence-peddling scandal that removed Park from office, they said Wednesday.
South Korea must call a halt to its national shame of corruption by opting for democracy and the rule of law, the natural enemies of despotism and corruption. The answer is separation of powers and checks and balances as well as direct election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

North Korean defector charged with siphoning off state subsidies
Prosecutors said Wednesday they have indicted the leader of a local North Korean defectors' association on charges of siphoning off government subsidies.
British historian Lord Acton once opined that power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. In South Korea even NGO aid agencies are no immune from corruption. To stop all this the people must come forth as sovereigns and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to impose democracy and rule of law, including separation of powers and checks and balances. The heads of the four government branches should be elected in alternating years and elections should be free of charge for all candidates to end the ties between government and corruption. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Tillerson in Moscow to ask Russia to ditch Syria’s Assad
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson carried a message from world powers to Moscow Tuesday denouncing Russian support for Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, as the Trump administration took on America’s traditional mantle as leader of a unified West.
The US should support Taiwan's drive for constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization and pressure Russia to consider adopting real democracy, resulting in the birth of world peace. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Moon vows to expand fiscal spending for new jobs, welfare
South Korean President front-runner Moon Jae-in said Wednesday he will double the rate of increase in the government's fiscal spending if elected, and redirect government spending to create more jobs and support corporate employees.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential system of democracy has a number of flaws that even the US is not immune from, Taiwan’s situation is serious, but impeachment is not an option. South Korea's constitution should be changed to incorporate a modified semi-presidential system, with the presidency declared to be above party politics. In addition, the heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Police grill leader of Park supporters over violent rally
On Wednesday Police questioned the leader of a local fan club of former President Park Geun-hye over a violent street rally protesting the Constitutional Court's decision to remove her from office last month.
The environment is changing rapidly and the problems are endless. Judicial reform is only one part of constitutional reform, and the fundamental solution for Taiwan is reform to select the heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches in direct election and carry out public reviews of judicial policies, court systems, executive actions, personnel and budget considerations, etc., once every 5 years to legitimize public opinion and ensure they keep pace with the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Sean Spicer says even Hitler didn’t gas his own people, before clarifying ‘my blunder’
White House press secretary’s clumsy comparison drew immediate backlash as critics pointed out Hitler’s use of gas chambers to exterminate Jews during the Holocaust
After a ceasefire is achieved in Syria, the UN should quickly provide a basic outline for drawing up a constitution that will foster peaceful development. This should include an organizational structure reflecting the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law as well as four branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial, and a system a laws that will enable Syria to develop and flourish in peace. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Wells Fargo blames ‘best banker in America’ for its sales scandal
An investigation by Wells Fargo & Co.’s board laid blame for the company’s unauthorized accounts scandal on a high-pressure sales culture and a retail executive obsessed with stamping out negative views about her division.
Key structural factors engendering corruption in US companies are a lack of separation of powers and checks and balances in government. The solution is easy - the American people should launch constitutional reform to directly elect the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches and limit the president to one 5-year,term with no right to run again for 6 years afterwards. 1/4 of all legislators should face election each year, and elections should be free of cost for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

US moves to destroy Russian’s spam network
The US Justice Department said Monday it had launched an effort to take down the Kelihos botnet, a global network of tens of thousands of infected computers it claims was operated by a Russian national arrested in Spain over the weekend.
Human security and sustainable development are two of the UN’s major tasks and missions, and they are also common goals for all humankind. All nations should strive to abide by the norms of the international community. This can easily be done by implementing One World under One Set of Laws and giving international law precedence over domestic law with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

CY Leung seeks to plug housing loophole with stamp duty rise for multiple flat purchases
Local first-time home buyers purchasing multiple flats at the same time will now have to pay a 15 per cent stamp duty
Relevant provisions of the Basic Law and the One Country, Two Systems principle all note that China cannot interfere in Hong Kong affairs, but Beijing nevertheless constantly meddles in Hong Kong's internal affairs. Article 39 of the Act guarantees the right of Hong Kong to self-determination, and the people have the right to referendums on all public issues. The people of Hong Kong should hold fast to their rights and use referendums to decide their own future. Otherwise, when dictatorship becomes a reality, they will be obliged to resist.
